Actually, I got an answer from Great Britain to this question a few days ago. It seems that Petromax made some lanterns with different colours and enamelled.
Then I found a second Petromax 828 that I bought directly from the person that in 1941 or 1942 had bought it as new, and it also has a red top. You can watch it at the adress: http://willman.20m.com/photos.html
I believe that after 1943 there has not been any Petromax lanterns with red top.
